A single road along a bush ridge

Yellow Rock rises to about 245 metres from the Nepean River, and the shape of the suburb is simple: Yellow Rock Road runs out along the ridge and finishes at the Yellow Rock lookout. Much of Yellomundee Regional Park sits inside the locality, Frasers Creek runs west to north-east through the northern end, and the Hawkesbury Ridge lies across the creek that forms the northern boundary.

In other words, bush on both sides of a single ridge road, with houses on large blocks between them. Of every suburb on this list, this is one of the most comprehensively bush-interfaced.

Roof-line detailing is the main job here

Where the bush comes to the boundary, the most consequential part of the building is the roof edge. The NSW Rural Fire Service describes this district as one of the most bush fire prone in the state, and most of the local government area — roughly 70% of which is national park — sits on mapped bush fire prone land.

Tank water is common out here, so if your household drinks it, say so and we keep coatings and detailing compatible. Access is the other factor — long driveways, large blocks, limited hardstand — and it goes in the quote rather than being discovered later.
